A British and French full set "Cliquet" cover. Backstamped Noumea 14 March 09 and Paris 27 April 09. (Blinco coll.)
Here is Jeff's write-up:
Transit and Delivery
The mail from New Hebrides was carried to Noumea by the French inter-island mail
vessel (probably “Oui-Oui”) which arrived at Noumea on 14th March 1909 the same day
as “Pacifique”. Mail from Sydney for New Hebrides mail was transshipped to “Oui-Oui”.
This cover was carried to Sydney by the Messageries Maritimes steamer “Pacifique”
which arrived on the 21st March 1909 and transferred directly the Messageries Maritimes
main line steamer “Armand Behic” (Ligne T). The mail was further transshipped at
Colombo to “Nera” (Ligne N) which arrived at Marseilles on 26thApril four days ahead of
“Behic” (the Colombo connection was the manner of the Ligne T mail system since mid
1903).
The cover has a Paris receival cancel for 27th April 1909.

1908 French "set" cover to Noumea with very clear impressions of PCH type 7.
("SeSi" coll.)
Small cover with a French 5c cancelled with PCH type 5 to Nicolas Hagen at Noumea.
Backstamped Noumea 13 4 09. The Messageries Maritimes steamer PACIFIQUE arrived at Port Vila on about 7/8 April,
made its trip through the islands and was back at Vila on about 11/12 April and returned to Noumea on 12/13 April
and called at Sydney on 18 April.
So this cover was most likely carried by the PACIFIQUE. (Klinger coll.)
Registered cover to France, the total postage of 2/- 6p cancelled with Goyns/Klinger type PM2. Registration mark type NR1C.
So this cover was most likely carried by the PACIFIQUE too. The Messageries Maritimes steamer
DUMBEA left Sydney on 19 April and arrived in Marseilles on 29 Mai. This cover is backstamped on arrival in Auxerre on 26 Mai
so I suppose that it was carried by train from Italy.
Postal rate to France in 1909 was French colonial letter rate 1d(10c) per 15g and registration fee was 2½d - so this letter
must have been very heavy....

Postcard written on S.S. "Tambo", maybe from a member of the crew who had this
in these years very popular hobby of postcard collecting and exchanging.

Letter to Germany using first issue French series tied by PCH type 5. Backstamped
Nouméa, Nouvelle Calédonie, 11 Mai 09 and Napoli 18.6.09.
("JGI" coll.)
Letter to Germany using first issue French series 5c, 10c x 2, 25c tied by
PCH type 5. Travelled via Naples too. Correct rate as non colonial letter rate was 2½d or 25c and registration for French (or mixed) stamps used 25c. The Messageries Maritimes steamer PACIFIQUE Captain Chavin left Sydney on 29 April for New Caledonia and the New Hebrides.
She left Noumea for the New Hebrides on 4 May. On her way back she left Noumea on May 12 4 p-m- and arrived at Sydney on
16 May. On 15 May the German Mail Ship SEYDLITZ (Norddeutscher Lloyd) left Sydney for Bremen. Mail would have been brought from Sydney to Melbourne or Brisbane maybe.
She arrived at Naples on June 21 - so she's not good for this letter. So let's try R.M.S. OPHIR, Orient-Royal mail line (Captain A.J. Coad) left Sydney on 15 May too and departed Melbourne
two hours earlier than the SEYDLITZ. She left Adelaide on 20 May, the Seydlitz on 21 May as she loaded far more cargo. OPHIR reached Colombo on 3 June, SEYDLITZ on 4 June in the evening.
Hmmm, OPHIR was due at Naples on 20 June.... The express steamers ISIS and OSIRIS went to Brindisi, maybe the mails to Germany were processed in Naples.
(Klinger coll. ex Goron coll.)
Next try with the help of Jeff Blinco, Perth:
Messageries Maritimes' steamer AUSTRALIEN, Captain F. Riquier, arrived in Sydney from Noumea on Monday, 3 May. The paquebot-annexe PACIFIQUE arrived in Sydney with mails from Noumea on 16 May.
AUSTRALIEN left Sydney on 17 May to Marseilles via Adelaide, Freemantle, Colombo, Bombay, Aden, Suez, Port Said. She left Adelaide on 22 May and was due at Colombo on June 5, Bombay June 8,
Aden June 15 and Marseilles June 25. She left Port Said in the afternoon of June 21 and arrived in Marseilles at 08:00 on Saturday June 26.
Now we know that mail was transhipped in Colombo from the Messageries Maritimes' New Caledonia line to the faster Yokohama "Ligne N" boats. So let's try the OCÉANIEN: 29 May Saigon and 25 June in Marseilles.
She left Singapore on May 31. The STRAITS TIMES of 8 June writes that Messageries Maritimes mail which left Singapore on May 31 (with OCÉANIEN) was due in London on June 23. Given that the typical Mt. Cenis
railway transport from Italy to London took 1 day this means that the OÉANIEN was too late for this letter either......

Registered letter from Port Vila to Paris with the British 1/- stamp,
backstamped at Noumea "6 JU?? 09" in transit and backstamped at arrival in Paris
"18 -8 09".
Pacifique started Sydney 23 June, arrived Noumea 27 June, went on to Vila 29 June,
arrived Vila 30 June, made the interisland trip and returned to Vila on 4 July, called again
at Noumea on 5 July and returned to Sydney on 7 July where she arrived on 11 July. This was the usual trip
she made. At Sydney transhipped to Ville de la Ciotat, transhipped at Colombo to Armand Behic
& arrived Marseilles 17 Aug 1909 then Paris on the 18 Aug. Thanks to Jeff Blinco for the help with this.

Registered letter from Port Vila to Metz / France with the complete French set. The stamps are cancelled with GK Type PM2,
registration cachet is GK Type NR1C. An oval registration cachet is not of New Hebridean origin. The total franking of 1F90c
is of course for philatelic reasons the colonial letter rate to France being 10c. The cover ist backstamped Sydney 12 JY 09, the
day after PACIFIQUE arrived.
