Hit by a torpedo on 29 August 1942, Malaita underwent
temporary repairs in Port Moresby before limping to Sydney, where it was found she
was so damaged that she was laid up until full repairs could be effected in 1945.
She was sold in July 1965 to San Fernando SS Co. and renamed "Pilar Regidor".
In 1968 she was renamed again, "Linda Jr" this time, and was finally scrapped in August 1971.
