Cover from Tulagi to Sydney, handstamped PAQUEBOT. This is not a proper use of this handstamp as this mark should have only been used on foreign stamps on letters handed in from ships calling at Tulagi. Several of these covers are known. All are commercial and I believe it was used on letters which had come in from outer islands without cancels. Zhe adressee is a wholasale grocer which sent supplies to the Solomon Islands. Usually tea, flour, condensed milk, biscuits and tinned food etc. [Information thanks to "Barakoma"] ("Tikopia" collection)

The cover from New Guinea with correct Paquebot use is addressed to the old Blackfriars Correspondence School. This was a school which taught pupils by sending a week's lessons by post followed by next week's lessons before week one was over. Normally the pupils were in remote parts of NSW, or in this case, Bougainville which also did not have a high school. Before independence there was a string of copra plantations up the east coast of this island. The cover came from one of these, as Bougainville is geographically part of the Solomons and more contact would have been with Tulagi than Rabaul or Port Moresby. ("Tikopia" collection, description thanks to "Barakoma")
