during her trip through the islands. A French vertical pair of 5c with millésime 8 tied by
cds Nouméa 13-4 09 on arrival. ("SeSi" coll.)

Cancelled Nouméa (date illegible) and at Laval, Mayenne on 28 June 1925. DUPLEIX (Captain Cerisola) left Sydney on 2 May 1925

cancel "NOUMEA NOUVELLE CALEDONIE" and marked with the rectangular cachet "Buvez le cafe de la Nouvelle Caledonie" which was used in 1935.
The cover is underpaid 15c as in 1935 the colonial letter rate was 50c. Backstamped Noumea 1935-09-09 and Paris 1935-10-21. (coll. Fred Petit)

Air Mail cover to Australia, 20 cg rate (?), cancelled on arrival Nouméa
with the 24 mm straight line mark. ("Aore" coll.)
Both above Bannister covers came from the Seventh Day Adventist Mission in Tanna. Letters
to Mr. Bannister in Tanna are known with the address S.C.I.S. ("Soçiété
Coloniale des Îles du Sud").
Letter to Sydney, the two French 5c stamps are cancelled with the Nouméa Paquebot
cancel (24mm x 4mm). The cover is backstamped Edgecliff 20 March 1950. ("JGI" coll.)
Letter to USA, the 10c UPU and the 1938 British 30c and two 50c stamps cancelled with the
Nouméa paquebot handstamp (24mm x 4mm), additionally with a normal Nouméa
CDS. Backstamped on arrival 11 june 1951, so this was a real Air Mail letter. ("JGI" coll.)
Aerogramme posted on board the "CARIAD I" (built 1896) whule calling at TANNA. CARIAD 1 and Noumea cancels.

Straight line marks applied to loose letters received at Nouméa from ships coming
from the New Hebrides. Vessels of the French New Hebrides Company and Messageries Maritimes
would have been the main source for such letters. (most stamps "Aore" coll.)
Although issued with a NAVIRE mark in 1953, this mark was used to 1967.
