Postcard ("tribal chief") to France cancelled with PM3.
This is the only recorded cover from the New Hebrides bearing the 1899 provisional
issue, all others bearing either the 1892, 1904 or the 1905 series. Usage of the
"Port Sandwich" cancel suggests that it was posted on board the Pacifique
during a swing through the outer islands, the adhesive presumably being provided
from the private resources of the sender. (Treadwell coll.)

Postcard to Auckland, 10c inter-colonial letter rate.
Postcards with more than 5 words of greetings were regarded as
"correspondence" and required the letter rate to be paid.
Scarce use of the Port Vila canceler, probably on board one of the Société
Française de Nouvelles-Hébrides vessels. Covers bearing it are almost
non-existent between December 1904 and March 1908. (Pacifica, Jan 2007, p16)

Scarce New Hebrides usage of a stationery for the French colonies: postcard general issue for the colonies of 1881 type Alphée Dubois "Déesse assise" 10c
black & lilac cancelled Post Sandwich 12 NOV 06 with destination Noumea, the month block in italic and inverted.
The sender announces the dispatch of a package to the trading house Barrau in Noumea with the next departure.
The news is signed J.L. which could be the signature of Mr. Javelier Lucien, a settler on the island of Mallicolo near Port Sandwich where he worked on an area of 50 ha
belonging to the Société Française des Nouvelles Hébrides. As the steamers Pacifique and St Louis both were in Sydney, this card was most likely
carried by the St Antoine. On 9th November St.Antoine tried in vain to tow the French ship Biessard off a reef near New Caledonia and may then have sailed to the New Hebrides. ("SeSi" coll.)
